Welcome to Abilene
Abilene has one of the only competing jump rope teams in the area and the jumpers have been to the National Championships in Disney World. The Western Heritage Classic in Abilene features rodeo, campfire cook-off, sheepdog trials, Cowboy poetry, and a Western art show. "Frontiering," the city's branding campaign, is designed to create a progressive identity from Abilene's history, culture, geography, commerce and the spirit of its people. It is also home to three future universities Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene Christian University, and McMurry University.
